About
The Deer Run Swim Team was started in 1996 by Traci Downey. All four of her boys swam for the team. After years of swimming for Deer Run and swimming competitively for Chattahoochee Gold, her youngest son, Gabe, went on to be Head Coach for the Dolphins in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
Multiple other Volunteer Coordinators have given their time, lots of sweat and a few tears to keep the team alive. The amount of work that is done prior to the season beginning is endless and the job can be thankless. Two very special women, Jen Hartman and Kristin Reeg, dedicated eight years to the Dolphins. Both ladies had kids that swam for Deer Run, Woodstock High School and swam competitively for Chattahoochee Gold. Seeing their children's love for the sport is what kept them continuing to volunteer to run the team. Their kids too went on to Coach for the Dolphins. Kristin Reeg's daughter is the current Head Coach of the Dolphins!
The Dolphins have been County Champions multiple years. Our team has been blessed with some amazing coaches that reside right in our own neighborhood. The support we receive from the families of our swimmers is truly what makes the entire season come together. We are so grateful for all the time and effort our volunteers have given and continue to give!!
Volunteer Coordinators work with the Deer Run HOA President and Property Manager to set a budget, understand legalities and hire coaching staff for the team.
Past years the Deer Run Dolphins swam for Cherokee County. In 2019, we switched to the Atlanta Swim Association (ASA). The ASA provides 24-7 response for teams, ribbons, liability and accident insurance for swimmers, Hy Tek training prior to the season and is focused on making summer league swimming the most positive and fun experience that swimmers and teams can enjoy.
Currently, Beth Parker is in her 5th year as team coordinator with Lisa Mosely and Lauren Youmans for the 2025 season. Morgan Reeg is returning for her 5th year as well, as our 2025 Head Coach.
